Veronika Decides to Die by Paul Coelho

VeronikaThanks, P.H., for the recommendation to read Veronika Decides to Die.  I took it on vacation with me earlier this month.  At the start of this novel, Veronika awakens in a mental hospital after a failed attempt to end her life, only to discover that she has irreparably damaged her heart and only has a few days to live.  These unusual circumstances provide an intense period of self-discovery for her and to those around her. My first thoughts were, hmmm, suicide and insanity might be a little heavy for beach reading, but by the time I finished my opinion had changed.  Being away from work and with my extended family for a week was an excellent time to consider what (and who) really is crazy?
