Raney, by Clyde Edgerton

I recently re-read this delightful novel by one of my favorite North Carolina authors. Almost every North Carolinian will discover characters who seem like people he knows and dialogue true to North Carolina speech. It’s the sort of book that makes you want to read aloud to a friend and enjoy a good laugh together!

Raney      Raney is a naive, innocent young woman with little experience outside her close, extended family. She marries Charles, who comes from Atlanta and is more sophisticated than she. The two discover that their families and social settings are very different, but they gradually work out their problems. If you’ve seen–and been charmed by–Kellie Pickler on "American Idol," you’ll find that Raney has much in common with her.
