I just finished this quite satisfying book, Sue Monk Kidd’s first fiction effort (I look forward to taking a look at some of her previous nonfiction now). In a nutshell, a runaway adolscent girl in 1960s South Carolina learns the lessons of love and forgiveness from three unforgettable beekeeping sisters. Issues of death, race, sacred feminity, and young love are all well addressed here in this very readable novel.

If you’re planning to read any of Kidd’s nonfiction work, I highly recommend Dance of the Dissident Daughter.
